New
growing area for some of our Mobile Device Brokers: Rugged Laptops
For the "outdoor" type of worker...if
you specialize in this market, profits will shortly come your way...but you must know the basics of at least exactly WHAT
constitutes a true Rugged Laptop.
These are – the Rugged Laptops,
Phones, Mice, Drives and More – some of our Brokers are specializing in these, and making out very good.
If you imagine that a computer is built
tough because it can fall off a desk without breaking, think again. Rugged computers, USB flash drives, mice, phones and other
tough tech are designed to comfortably survive unreasonable environments.
We at Clear-Cloud Network have seen some really tough "people"
using them....
In military and industrial circles, the term rugged has a special connotation: the product is built
with dangerous and hazardous environments in mind. Such products are often more expensive than standard equipment, because
you pay for durability. You don't get slick and streamlined designs, though.
Acouple of Registered Mobile Device Brokers & Liquidation
Pros in Montana have been specializing in this fairly new market for 12 months or so, and are generating over $12,000 sales
monthly....and, this couple also do Rugged Netbooks.....
For example, they recently located, acquired a
batch of 33 rugged laptops (Fujitsu) at
around $257 each...the street price is about $1,874...the units had a slight pigment off-set that was "dull" in
the indoors...not able to be sold on store displays) of course they were all 100% functional, worked fine. The Brokers in
Montana (husband and wife team) successfully liquidated the entire batch in less than 4 weeks. Their profits were very decent!
In some instances, these rugged products
are tested and meet military standards, such as MIL-STD. Products meeting these guidelines are designed to meet general expectations
for toughness, including operating effectively in sand, dust, fog and wind. They also can withstand sudden temperature changes,
fungus and heat up to 158°F, are resistant to vibration and laugh heartily at spraying liquids.
After you've replaced five or six company
phones in a quarter, handing over these products to a particularly accident-prone employee might just make sense. You wouldn't
be alone in thinking so. A growing number of companies don't believe the technology in which they invest is disposable; so
they are supporting a steadily growing market. Rugged computing and telecommunications products were an $880 million market
in 2006 and are expected to grow 12.7 percent to $1.6 billion by 2011, according to Venture Development Corp., a Natick, Mass.-based
research company that we here at Clear-Cloud Network
work with.
Government and military
contracts are lucrative, so it is not surprising that most computer and technology manufacturers make rugged versions of their
equipment. There are also specialty ruggedization companies that will ruggedize products either for resale or as a requirement
for a customized contract.
We
here at Clear-Cloud have contacts with at least four of the 2nd and 3rd tier Asian mfgrs that are NOW manufacturing these
rugged laptops!
Need some examples of these "extreme" computers
and components? We'll show you some of them to make you regularly check e-mail in snowstorms or type while climbing to the
summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. (your buyers will be interested...contact your trainer for correct marketing techniques for these types of
off-loads)
The word "rugged"
in product descriptions doesn't automatically mean you get true rugged products. There is no list of specifications that classify
a product as such, so unscrupulous manufacturers may play fast and loose with the term. Slapping rubber bumpers on laptops
is a mostly a cosmetic nod and doesn't really provide the durability or waterproofing that you get with the real rugged McCoys.
Some products meet only part of MIL-STD-810,
Gouzhiag
Laptop-SFT a Taiwan company we work with, recently unveiled its first fully ruggedized laptop, the Mapi XYR D430. The
system is one of the only in its class to simplify IT with seamless integration into existing infrastructure and deliver extreme
durability without compromising performance. The rugged laptop, intended for government and commercial customers, is available
today in the U.S. and starts at $3,899. For Registered Brokers, min. batch is 28 units, at around $443 each. They will have
minor case-to-frame cosmetic flaws though.

The laptop meets MIL-STD 810F
standards from the Department of Defense for products
that operate in extreme temperatures, moisture and altitude, to name a few. The system shares common images and components
with the line of current units.
View the below
video if you have now, or, expect soon, customers that do heavy duty outdoors work...we
here at Clear-Cloud Network have seen a lot of our Brokers & Liquidation Pros
that are slowly building up their data base of clients that do desire a true RUGGED laptop. The below video will "put
in your head" the concept of what, exactly, is a real "tough" laptop.....Clark
These laptops are made to greatly simplify deployment and maintenance.
Also, a patent-pending thermal management system allows the rugged laptop to use latest generation technology and deliver
up to four times better graphics performance than the Panasonic CF-30.2
"The Mapi XYR D430 represents a tectonic shift towards simplicity in the ruggedized
laptop space," said Steve McBlally, director, Gouzhiag Laptop-SFT Taiwan (eastern region) Product Group. "We are
taking a multi-dimensional approach that focuses on simplified deployment, service and durability without sacrificing performance.
Major competitors focus their efforts on 'rugged' only."
The
Mapi XYR D430 includes several features that keep users productive:
*
Five times more data durability of leading competitors with solid state drives
* ExpressCharge charges batteries
at least 30 minutes faster than competitors...........................
So, as a Broker you'll probably
have to do a little more research if you plan on entering this market.
Note - we do not usually
deal with Motorola laptops, this is a consumer vendor/BUT, the features that are in Motorola rugged laptops are the same as the rugged laptops you'll
acquire from the IT Asset Disposal pipelines…………...but with slight cosmetic irregularities, etc...BUT all are absolutely 100%functional and operational! Just "show" the buyer the slight
flaw...and provide him/her your business card so that you, as a Mobile computing Pro, will HAVE A LONG TERM CLIENT!
Motorola Introduces Fully-Rugged Mobile Notebook and Workstation for Government and Public
Safety Users......................................
last
month announced the new ML910 Rugged Notebook and MW810 Mobile Workstation,
fully-rugged,
wireless-enabled mobile computers that give government, public safety and enterprise mobile workers quick and secure access
to vital information. Mr Powers, our founder here at Computer-Brokers-USA recently was told, by Dolly Nuiture, at Motorola
(product mngr) that these units "will have many competitors."
These newest additions to
the Motorola portfolio of mission-critical communications solutions represent significant advancements in its fully-rugged
mobile devices. The ML910 Rugged Notebook and MW810 Mobile Workstation offer optimized wireless computing performance and
capabilities designed specifically for the government user.
The ML910 Rugged
Notebook is designed to meet the requirements of military and public safety users and built to excel in tough environments.
Optimized for secure and reliable wireless communications, the ML910 Rugged Notebook features the first 13.3" widescreen
display providing higher resolution and more space to view multiple applications than other rugged notebooks in its class.
The fully-rugged MW810 Mobile Workstation is a vehicle-mounted computer that provides reliable and secure wireless
connectivity and processing power for mission- critical applications. The MW810 Mobile Workstation offers Intel® Core™2
Duo processor options, a sunlight-readable display and programmable buttons that allow for quick access to critical applications
and remote assistance.

need fast, reliable and secure access to video and data information necessary for quicker response and better decision-making,"
said Dave Janus, director of mobile off-load computing operations, Cheyenne Wy. These new products offer important features
and capabilities in high demand by government users who need powerful mobile computers that can withstand the challenging
conditions in the field.
If your buyers are outside a lot, these types will be in
demand...although only around 5% to 7% of our Registered Brokers are now moving these rugged laptops, the numbers will only increase over the near future!
These
rugged laptops include, as a standard feature a hard drive heater for startup and operation in freezing temperatures and also
has diagnostic software that monitors internal conditions and prevents outages due to extreme heat and cold.
The
typical rugged notebook is designed to excel in wireless performance and is capable of integrating up to four radios
including Wireless Local Area Network (LAN), Bluetooth® wireless technology, Global Positioning System (GPS) and Wide
Area Network (WAN) radios. In addition, Motorola offers software to provide seamless and secure intelligent roaming across
multiple wireless networks.
These laptops also support multiple internal radios for seamless multi-network roaming,
providing reliable connectivity—even at highway speeds. Many have internal GPS and Dead Reckoning GPS module options ensure reliable and accurate vehicle location verification.
